Harmony 650 Remote Serial Number
I'm having trouble containing my disappointment with this product. I've previously been a big fan of Logitech Harmony remotes up through the 880.
Recently, they have taken such a downturn in quality lately that second hand 880's are being priced in the $300 range. I mentioned n some previous post (not sure which thread) that I got a Harmony hub and the software was crap, and we wound up just using the little dinky 'temporary' remote for most things. That is the living room. My last surviving 880 is being used for the bedroom (main TV) and it has a replacement battery coming in soon. The devil wears prada patterns of the horizon rar. However, today I went and got a Harmony 350, for my wife's room. To be clear, she has three items, a TV, a Uverse box, and a Wii U. The remote that came with the Uverse box is good enough for everything except one thing.
Feel confident that Harmony 650 will control the devices you have today and the ones you add tomorrow—whether it’s a new Blu-ray™ player or an aging VCR. Ever-growing device database Your remote won’t become obsolete when manufacturers release new products or when you buy a new TV or add a Blu-ray™ player to your setup.
Changing the input of the TV from HDMI1 to HDMI2 to play the Wii U. She is used to how I set this up on other Harmony remotes, always to a programmed button under the Watch TV activity. Pressing TV/Video multiple times, and only after already turning on the Wii U, just isn't how she is familiar with doing it.
Right now, it is random. She seems to try pressing it three to five times, then trying to tell where she is then. If the Wii U is off, her chances of getting to the right place are nil, since it won't show as an option. That isn't a problem when you have a remote that directly changes to HDMI2 input.

So, as I said, I went to Fry's today and picked up the Harmony 350. It only has one activity, Watch TV, but that is the only activity I ever set up. Everything else I do with programmable buttons under that activity. However, when I went to set it up, I quickly went through confusion, anger, then rage. See, it has programmable buttons, but only in device mode, and only for the device of that mode, and no macros. I can live without macros, but the idea that it is a programmable remote with only one activity then does not allow you to program ANY button in that activity is, quite frankly, unforgivable.
Trying to keep my frustration under check, I went and programmed in two buttons under TV for HDMI1 and HDMI2. Then went into the wife's room to test it.
Pressed Watch TV, everything turns on. Pressed the button to switch to HDMI2, nothing. That is because it was programmed under the TV device. So I press TV, and press HDMI2, it works. Kamen rider agito belt.
Jumps to HDMI2 even though the Wii U isn't turned on yet (good). Press HDMI1 and it jumps back to Uverse. Volume up and down, good. Guide button. Oh, that is because I'm still under TV. Press cable and I can go to guide, but now lose TV functions.
