So I got a 2003 MDX last week but the DVD for the computer is all scratched and not working. Trying to get some information on which DVD I should get or how I can replace it.

Completely new to the MDX so im just kinda lost in general with how to pick a DVD. Will the brand new DVDs work with the 2003 mdx? Or must I look for the 2003 specific DVD? Any 3rd party DVDs out there that are better than the default? Where can I buy some of the DVD for the 2003 MDX?

Also how important are the version changes? For example version 3.4 from 3.9?

If the price is too high, you might be able to find an older version on eBay from someone who's just bought the current one.how important is the DVD? Aside from GPS does it do anything else?

Is there real time traffic with the DVD? Also how detailed is the point of interest? Like if i look up restaurants will hole in the wall shops come up or just major chains like burger king? And where can i find a revision history incase i would like to buy an older version. The navi screen is used for other things than just navi, you just don't have to spend $150+ for Acura's stupid disc. My Nuvi works faster than the stock unit and covers more area and cost a LOT less PLUS it's portable and I can use it in any vehicle I drive or as a pedometer. What more do you want a navi to do?

I'll never buy another unit from the manufacturer of the vehicle. Just too expensive. Even Costco has great deals and the latest Consumer's Reports did a report on the various portable units.

If you want to try Costco go ahead. Use it for 6 months and if you don't like it bring it back. Can't beat that deal but for the price of the Magellan in today's only special you just can't afford to pass it up. Yeah that link you gave me was such a good deal! I already bought it.

How do I do that? Because my MDX right now just says 'Please check disc.' And when I bought (used) the MDX it came a all scratched orange dvd that doesnt work at all.

Also what other stuff does that screen do aside from navigation? How can I make the DVD movies play on that screen when I'm parked under a tree or something?

Acura dealers (or non-Acura dealers for that matter) don't get a discount on the nav DVD's. That's poor form on the dealer to sell you a vehicle without a nav DVD! Important point for others looking used to make sure it's there because this isn't the first time this has happened. If you just need a nav DVD, the older versions get sold on ebay for cheaper, depending on how much older it is. Just make sure it's the white label one and not the orange. You want versions in the 4.xx range.

I think it may be hard to use an older version than what the 2007 had (4.55?), so to be safe I'd get the 4.62 version if you are going to go old which is what came with the 2008 model. Just FYI, people used to be able to torrent older versions of the Acura nav DVD but with the 2007 version I believe there's a new copy protection written into it so that practice has largely been eliminated. Paulli, i would get back to the dealer and ask them if they are used to selling incomplete things.? I would strongly recommend you to ask the dealer for both of these 'free of charge' as they are supposed to come with the vehicle & they were supposed to ask the previous owner for it, instead of taking back the vehicle 'incomplete' like that. They are most probably going to phone back the ex-owner and ask them to come to the dealer with the missing #1 FOB + the map DVD. Try this and let us know how it turns out.
